Trick or Treat times....

Here is the list of local Trick or Treat times, it seems funny to me that they aren't all on the 31st, but they aren't!

Local "You Pick" Pumpkin Patches

I have heard more than a few people ask where to go to pick your own pumpkins, so I decided to see if I could find a pretty good comprehensive list. The link below is a pretty good tally, when you get to the page make sure you scroll down to York County and check the link to the farm to make sure the operation is up and running. Good luck and have fun!

National Apple Harvest Festival

This weekend, and next weekend, mark the 46th annual National Apple Harvest Festival at South Mountain Fairgrounds near Arendtsville, PA. This is a very heavily attended local event, if you have never been, you might want to put this on your "to do" list. Events kick off Saturday October 2nd at 8:00 am and if you want to be there right at the opening give yourself some extra time to park and catch the shuttle bus (it really is a BIG event).

There are a bunch of kids events, held in the Kid Country Building, including face painting and various games, there is also a petting zoo, pony rides, crafts and karaoke. There is also a pie eating contest for kids and a build a scarecrow area, which is always popular. The big drawl, for me, is all of the apple foods, my personal favorites are the apple cookies and apple bread, but check out the other local products like pies, cakes, kettle corn and cider.

The arts and crafts vendors are another big drawl for the crowds and this year they are boasting over 300 vendors! One quick thought if you are thinking of going, and possibly bringing a stroller along, think about bringing a jogging stroller or something with bigger wheels, the event is held on a grassy fairground area and with all of this rain there is sure to be mud. (If you have a baby think about skipping the stroller and bringing along the front carrier, between the mud and the crowds you might fare better.)

Check out more on the Apple Festival, and if you are thinking of attending make sure you keep an eye out for coupons in the newspaper. (Admission is $9 for adults, 60 years and older $8, Kids under 12 are FREE) http://www.appleharvest.com/

Stauffers of Kissel Hill Fall Festival

This weekend marks the first of two consecutive weekends that host the Stauffers of Kissel Hill Fall Festival. We have somehow managed to miss this event every year but everyone I know that has gone has LOVED all of the FREE activities. (We will absolutely be there this year!) There are way too many things going on to list so make sure you check out the attached flier below and remember that there are two SKH locations in York, one on East Market Street out towards Hellam and the other on Carlisle Road in Dover, both offering slightly different schedules. Hope to see you there!

Here is the flier for the DOVER Fall Festival:

Springettsbury Township's Saturday in the Park

I almost forgot to mention that tomorrow is Springettsbury Township's Saturday in the Park. The day starts at 8am with registration for the 5K race and fun run, you can sign up at the YAUFR Headquarters Parking Lot (fire station). The fun run begins at 9:30am and the 5K at 9:45am. Starting at 11:30am there is a 3 on 3 basketball tournament, and starting at noon in the amphitheater there are dancing and twirling routines from different dance companies in the area. Later in the evening there is a Panthers Soccer game, followed by an EYC football game and a York Little League game. (If there is a sport your child might be interested in this might be a fun way to introduce them!)

The fun stuff like face painting, bounce houses and hot air balloon rides are all starting at noon. Some things cost $2, like the bounce houses and inflatable slides, other things like the face painting and balloon animals are free. There is so much going on that I really would have to write for hours, but needless to say its going to be a very fun day and to top it all of there is a fireworks display to end the day at 8pm.

Check all of the fun information here:

Sweet Beginnings

This weekend the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center will hold a two day kick-off event for the upcoming season, called "Sweet Beginnings". On Saturday the event will be for the 21 and older crowd, but Sunday is the day to have fun with the kids. In remembering that this is a fundraising event the tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for kids, which includes drinks and delicious sweets (think chocolate!) There will also be face painting, performances by Spring Grove High School students who are doing the play "Beauty and the Beast", and crowd favorite The Steven Courtney Band! This event kicks off at noon and runs through 4pm, and make sure you come hungry because I have heard there are over 30 vendors, dessert vendors, so be prepared.

Visit http://www.strandcapitol.org/ for more information and eat some sweets for me!
